Mindfulness and Gratitude

“The day, water, sun, moon, night – I do not have to purchase these things with money.” – Plautus

I am currently coaching a few people who attended my “Life of Your Dreams” seminar. This week’s coaching exercise for us is about “Letting Go”.

(Yes, I’m doing the exercises along with my clients. Must have integrity…)

So anyway. Letting Go. Big. Scary. Kinda confronting. Also very liberating.

As part of today’s coaching email, I volunteered my contribution to each of my clients as a little kick-start, and also because I really needed to let go of something. (Nothing quite like public accountability.)

“I am letting go of worrying about money NOW, because it no longer serves me. By letting go, I am allowing myself to love my family more fully, and concentrate on giving amazing service to my customers.”

So there you have it: as of right NOW, I am letting go of worrying about money.

This is kind of a big deal for me. (More public accountability, too.)

Instead, I’m trusting that if I do what I need to do, make my art and follow my heart, all the money I need will be provided for me when I need it.

I took this photo at about 9am yesterday, while I walked the coastline near my house. Despite being a daytime shot, the image reminded me of the light of a full moon on the water. I searched for “moon quotes” in Mr Googleriffic, and out came Plautus’ gem. (Clever guy, he was.)

Plautus’ wise words are deliciously relevant to my “letting go” exercise, in that there are so many miracles and delights in life every single day, that do not require money.

I’d like you to pause for a moment. Right now. Go on, I’ll wait.

As you pause, think about your life. Look around. Open your awareness.

You need food, somewhere to sleep, and something (funky) to wear, granted. But apart from that, how many amazing aspects of your life are completely free?

Relationships. Hugs. Sunshine. Love. Flowers. A cool breeze on a warm day. A warm breeze on a cool day. The glisten and sparkle of sunlight as it plays on rippling water.

The fact that – completely autonomously – our lungs fill, our heart beats, and our food digests, enabling you and I to be respectively reading and writing this particular set of words.

All this stuff is free. It has been argued – quite convincingly – that the best things in life are, in fact, free.

I think it’s fair to say that my “letting go” exercise is off to a great start.

And it’s also fair to say that the answer comes back to my old buddies: mindfulness and gratitude.

Mindfulness, and gratitude.

Sending both your way, this fine day, with love,
Israel. xo
