“With the pride of the artist, you must blow against the walls of every power that exists with the small trumpet of your defiance.” – Norman Mailer

Today, my trumpet of defiance was feeling quite small – to the point where I was struggling to think of a direction to take with this morning’s IQ.

Then, via Facebook, I got a tip-off from a Misfit friend in the UK called Louise, about this article, which contained the quote I used today.

To be an artist requires pride – we have to love our own work, and be satisfied with it, before we can conceive that anyone else will love it too. And to “blow against the walls of every power that exists” – well, that’s all about carving your own niche, being yourself, staying unique in a loud, crowded, generic sea of ideas.

I love this quote. I loved reading the article. I am so grateful to Louise, and it has given me a huge boost for tomorrow’s IQ and beyond.

Blow your small trumpet of defiance, my friend, however you can.

With love,
Israel. xo
