“Now you are two persons, but there is only one life before you.” – Apache Wedding Blessing

On this day, nine years ago, I married my beloved Belinda on the beach at Coogee. I can honestly say that my love for Bel has increased constantly over the years, and I wouldn’t be half the man I am today without her by my side supporting, encouraging and loving me.

At our wedding, we had the “Apache Wedding Blessing” read by our celebrant at the very end of the ceremony. It’s a beautiful passage, and something we both felt summed up our feelings towards each other and our marriage. This morning I got really choked up while trying to choose which line to use for the today’s quote. Yes, I am a mushy sap of a man sometimes.

Here is the Apache Wedding Blessing as it was read at our wedding:

Now you will feel no rain,
for each of you will be shelter for the other.
Now you will feel no cold,
for each of you will be warmth to the other.
Now there will be no loneliness,
for each of you will be companion to the other.
Now you are two persons,
but there is only one life before you.
May beauty surround you both in the
journey ahead and through all the years,
May happiness be your companion and
your days together be good and long upon the earth.

Today’s image is from our wonderful wedding photographers – Anni & Matt from Milk & Honey Photography. Despite being in black & white, I feel this photo perfectly captures the beautiful weather we had on the beach for our day, and the moments just after our ceremony where Bel and I are in this blissful haze of being newlyweds.

Whatever your relationship circumstances, please know that I wish you nothing but love. I’m fortunate to experience the deep, constant, fill-you-up sort of love on a daily basis. I hope some of it oozes out of these words and gives you a smile and a warm fuzzy feeling today.

With deep, constant, fill-you-up sort of love,
Israel. xo
