ISIQ-0301

“Cryin’ won’t help you, prayin’ won’t do you no good,
Now, cryin’ won’t help you, prayin’ won’t do you no good,
When the levee breaks, mama, you got to move.”
– Robert Plant
(“When the Levee Breaks” by Led Zeppelin)

You could be forgiven for thinking today’s IQ is really dreary and depressing. Certainly the words sound that way.

But here’s the thing:

What the words are really saying, is that when the flood waters come rushing through the sandbags and over the metaphorical river-banks (ie when the sh!t hits the fan), you’ve got to do something about it yourself.

Sitting on your hands, crying and praying isn’t going to get you out of your current dilemma. Whether it’s debt, relationship troubles, health, weight-gain/loss, friends, sport, whatever… YOU have to move.

YOU are the one who has to do something. No-one is going to do it for you. No-one is going to save you from your current circumstances, believe me. Everyone has enough of their own stuff to deal with, without having to rescue you from your own stuff too.

So you need to make a choice:

Are you up to the challenge? Are you willing to actually take action? Or not?

The reality is that your life depends on it. Sure, you’ll still be alive, whether you choose to do “move” or not.

But will you be living?

Side note: I freaking LOVE the song that these lyrics come from. Led Zeppelin are probably one of my top 5 all-time Desert Island bands.

Tangential note: the song “When the Levee Breaks” has possibly the best-sounding drum track of any rock song, ever. Put on some headphones, turn it up loud, and play it on repeat for a while. John Bonham absolutely DOMINATES those drums in this song.

Side note to tangential note: “When the Levee Breaks” is the last song on Led Zeppelin IV – the same album which contains “Stairway to Heaven”, “Black Dog”, “Rock and Roll”, “Misty Mountain Hop”, “The Battle of Evermore”, and “Going to California”. Not a bad album, when you could simply leave off one song and make it a greatest-hits record. (And the song I’d leave off? “Four Sticks”. Sorry guys, it’s average.)

So, comparative music appreciation and drummers-club aside, I hope you take something positive from today’s IQ, despite the dreary face-value of the words.

You’re the one who makes it all happen in your life. Sorry if that is a shock to you.

If you’re already doing stuff, Huzzah! Keep it up, and even better, share some of it with me.

If not, time to make peace with the absolute reality that you control your own destiny.

Go on, off you go….

With love,
Israel. xo
