“No is the foundation that we can build our yes on.” – Seth Godin

Two Seth quotes within about a week? Yep. The guy is THAT good.

I’m convinced that today’s quote has to be a part of my life going forward.

Recently I read / heard that in order to do our best work, and focus on our most critical creative projects, our default answer when asked to be part of new projects should move from “Yes!” to “Can I think about it and get back to you?” The idea is to move away from saying Yes because we want to please everyone (and usually end up over-committed and fail to do anything properly). Instead, we move toward respecting everyone’s projects enough to determine whether we can do them justice, and politely and respectfully declining when we can’t do our best work for them, or when it’s not our most critical creative work.

It’s an interesting re-frame, yeah? For the full post by Seth, click here. (I wish I could remember where I read / heard the other bit too… but for now, you’ll just have to trust me. ;) )

Have a fabulous day!

With love,
Israel. xo
