Enjoy the honey-heavy dew of slumber.
Thou hast no figures, nor no fantasies,
Which busy care draws in the brains of men;
Therefore thou sleep’st so sound. ”
– Shakespeare

This quote of Shakespeare’s is taken from the play “Julius Caesar”. In this verse, Brutus is monologuing about his pal Lucius, who can sleep sweetly and soundly because his mind is calm and free of worry.

Indrani had her first slumber party last night, with 5 of her close girlfriends. It was loud, chaotic, late, loud, funny, challenging, and loud. Did I mention it was loud? I now know why many other parents warned us that we wouldn’t get much sleep ourselves.

Fortunately, through the generosity of my amazing wife, I got a pretty good nights’ sleep, albeit a bit shorter than I’m used to. Bel, however, was in the front-room with the girls until almost midnight to ensure they slept, then in our bed for a handful of hours, before going back into our son’s room early to ensure he didn’t wake up the girls. Needless to say, Bel is wickedly tired, as are all the girls, and Rilien. Excitement seems to be keeping them all going at present…

And so, today’s quote.

I wanted to reflect a little on the beauty of sleep, especially that which comes untroubled – mostly because. I love – and deeply need – quality sleep. I’ve found recently that I sleep better after about 20-30 mins of reading fiction. (Currently Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkein.)

Enjoy your sleep. It’s an essential part of a quality life. And search for that honey-heavy dew of slumber… so thou may’st sleep’st so sound.

With love,
Israel. xo
