“He was a dreamer, a thinker, a speculative philosopher… or, as his wife would have it, an idiot.” – Douglas Adams

Today I’d like to pay homage to all the tolerant women out there, married to men who find themselves lost in thought more often than not. Wives who know their men inside and out. Women who think worse of their husbands on occasion, but still stick around.

While my wife is currently not at home – she left home late yesterday afternoon and is hosting a pre-school Rainbow of Foods workshop in Newcastle this morning – her touch is as keenly felt as though she were still here.

I have a fridge full of pre-made lunchboxes for both the kids and me. I have a “to do” list of what needs to happen and when, to avoid thermonuclear meltdown within our household. I have her number on speeddial, just in case.

My girl is incredible, in many many ways. But her ability to live with my loose-headed-ness, and my need to simply “zone out” every now and then, is worthy of much dedication.

So, to be fair, I know Bel doesn’t think I’m an idiot. At least, not more than once or twice. A month.

But this tribute is valid, nonetheless. She’s a keeper, I reckon. Bel, I love you, and I miss you.

With love,
Israel. xo

PS I chose this image cos it’s one of her favourite parts of one of our favourite beaches in the world, just below the room where we had our wedding reception, coming up on 10 years ago.
