ISIQ-0228

“A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men.” – Roald Dahl

Three important points to make today:

1) I’m very sorry I missed yesterday’s IQ. I got home late from a shoot, remembered that I had to write & publish but elected instead to go to bed. Then, in the morning, I completely forgot to write & publish. I remembered late today, but by then it was kinda a bit late. Sorry. If it is any small consolation, I thought of you all often today – perhaps even more than if I had remembered to publish an IQ. It made my heart sore that I let you down, but light and happy that you’re still around and listening to my meandering ideas.

2) I have been publishing a lot of beach images recently. This is because the beach is my favourite place in the world – bar none – to spend time to nourish and nurture my soul. It is no accident that my wife and I book two weeks at a small beachside town on the mid North Coast of New South Wales every Christmas/New Year’s for our regular family getaway. Life is busy at the moment, and despite this I feel a sense of peace and calm that I attribute to my frequent time spent at the beach, surfing, swimming, running and walking. It recharges me in a way that nothing else does. Please enjoy the variety of the scenery and the always-changing landscape within the consistency of the locations. I do.

3) I watched the tail-end of “Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory” tonight. Fittingly, today’s quote is from the author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – the book upon which the film is based – Roald Dahl. Several things struck me about the film, which I have watched countless times before. One is the quality of Gene Wilder’s performance. It is, perhaps, his finest work. Two, the story of humility and decency which underpins Charlie’s character is so breathtakingly beautiful, and so heart-felt, that the moment when he turns over the Everlasting Gobstopper at the very end almost made me cry. Three, there are many, many examples of absolute and utter nonsense that pervade the story, the acting, the set design, the costumes, the props, and the dialogue. It is the main inspiration for me choosing today’s quote, and a solemn, serious reminder for us all to embrace nonsense at every opportunity, laugh a little, and STOP TAKING LIFE SO SERIOUSLY.

After all, as many wiser men than me have commented: No one gets out alive, so you might as well have some fun with it.

With love, laughter, nonsense, and the warmest, biggest smiles you can possibly imagine,
Israel. xo
