ISIQ-0120

Yeah. So I feel I should explain this one a little.

I took this picture at an AMAZING photography workshop with good mates of mine Urs Buhlman and Nuran Zorlu in the Hunter Valley last year. I’ve been sitting on it, knowing the EXACT quote I simply HAD to use with it. Tonight while searching for new fonts, I came across a font called – of all things – Top Gun. It was a sign. Seriously.

And so here we are, with today’s IQ.

As I was putting it all together, I started thinking more deeply about the photo, and the quote, and I realised a couple of things.

Firstly – Top Gun was possibly the last film of any value that Tom Cruise performed in. Oh, except for his role as the studio executive in Tropic Thunder. That was hilariously awesome.

Secondly – the amount of dedication and effort and time needed to become a fighter pilot is staggering. It really is an object lesson in focus, passion, and determination. There’s something in that for all of us, I suspect.

Thirdly – the quote can be read a number of ways. Obviously, Maverick just wants to go really really fast. HOWEVER, I think the better meaning for me right now, is the feeling of urgency to get moving on my goals and dreams. I really do feel the need to push on with energy and focus. Here’s a quick overview of those dreams. I’d love your input / feedback / comments:

  1. I dream of taking my family portrait photography to a whole new level of excellence, recognition, and profit. I also dream of it becoming 100% location-independent, and building a national / global community of people who love great family portraiture.
  2. I dream of starting a new blog and community about dealing with depression, and consciously crafting the life of your dreams. The blog would be filled with lessons, tips, stories, and insights from myself, and anyone I meet who has something valuable to share.
  3. I dream of travelling Australia with my wife & kids for 12-18 months, working as we go on a beautiful hybrid of my photography, my “life of your dreams” blog, and my wife’s impending new career in health and wellness coaching.

More to come on all of these in coming months. However, tonight, at a-quarter-past-eleven while I write this, I feel the need.

The need for speed.

With love,
Israel. xo
