I’ve noticed a shift in how I’m feeling about the act of writing.

For starters, I’m getting more excited each day about my writing time. I’m no longer resisting sitting down to write. Instead, I feel increasingly drawn to it, like it’s a special bit of “me” time.

I’m even starting to feel like writing time is a reward. We’re moving on tomorrow, so I spent hours cleaning the bus tonight while Bel worked, so we can make an early departure. For the whole time I was cleaning, I couldn’t wait to be finished so I could write.

I’ve also noticed that the act of simply taking one step forward each day has profound benefit. Already, I’m seeing the increasing word count, and the ticks appearing next to chapters, as I progress through writing the first draft. But the small steps forward are spilling into other areas in my life, too.

We’re going to settle on the Mid North Coast of NSW in a beautiful surf village called Crescent Head. Today I took action to find out how much it would likely cost to build a shed on our block, so we have somewhere to park our bus when we finish our trip today. Small, imperfect action. Yet I’m one small step closer to our dream home on our dream block in our dream town.

I’m excited. It’s only Day 5 of this new commitment, but I feel like things are shifting and momentum is slowly building. All from taking one step forward, each day.

What do you reckon?

With love,
Israel. xo
